Ryde itself enjoys 6 miles of stunning sandy beach where cricket games are played on the sand banks during very low tides. Appley Beach is a beautiful sandy beach with wonderful play area for children situated within the woodland behind, and a 9 hole pitch and putt golf course. Beyond Appley Tower to the East, dogs are permitted and there are two good beach restaurants at either end of the beach. Trendy bars and restaurants are found in Ryde's town centre, producing a mix of cuisine and cultures. Take the Hovercraft or Catamaran for a day out in Portsmouth and Southsea, with great shopping and restaurants at Gunwharf Quays and fun fair at Clarence Pier. View the Isle of Wight from the Spinnaker Tower. Further around the coast there are pebbled and sandy beaches, great beach restaurants and pretty marinas. About three miles from Ryde is the village of Wootton Bridge, with local shops, a picturesque Creek, family pubs and the Lakeside Inn with restaurant, accommodation and Spa.
