'The Cottage' is the former coach house to the Victorian residence that stands adjacent.
We believe the building dates from circa 1850, with the kitchen & bedroom extension being added in more recent years.
The home now offers well presented, comfortable, accommodation making an ideal holiday home from which to enjoy a lovely holiday on the Isle of Wight. It is very conveniently situated within 200m of lovely sandy beaches & within 500m of a main bus station allowing travel across the Island & both the hovercraft & passenger ferry terminals to the Isle of Wight. In brief, the accommodation is arranged over two floors. To the ground floor is the lounge with comfortable lounge seating together with a dining area, kitchen, cloakroom & a very useful utility/childrens' playroom. To the first floor are the double & twin bedrooms & family bathroom. Outside, there is a shared garden & the garden bench is for the sole use of 'The Cottage'.
What the East Wight has to offer:
The East of the Isle of Wight incorporates some of the most stunning beaches the Island has to offer. There are pretty villages with butchers, bakers and deli's selling delicious locally produced fayre. The beach stretches from Ryde right around the coast to Shanklin and inland offers some of the most beautiful countryside.
Appley Beach, with its six miles of beautiful sandy beach and wonderful play area for children situated within the woodland behind and a 9 hole golf course. Beyond Appley Tower to the East, dogs are permitted and there are two good beach restaurants either end of the beach.
Arreton has a feast of attractions including The Barns and Craft Village, Arreton Manor and Amazon World. Nearby is the popular Robin Hill Adventure Park with exciting rides and a 400m toboggan run. This is a really fun day out for all the family. Nearer the coast is the Bembridge Windmill and the Seaview Wildlife Encounter. The steam railway offers rides on the steam engines and puff their way through the pretty countryside.
Hiring bikes is easy and the Island is a place of destination for keen bikers and family enthusiasts. There are also a few riding stables to choose from around the island from where you can either hack through country side or along beaches. Photographers and walkers won't be disappointed and historians are also indulged with our castles and roman villas. Sailing, fishing and wonderful places to walk dogs and fly kites, there's something for everyone.
During very low tides, you will see a ribbon of people walking the famous Fort Walk from the village of Bembridge to the Fort out in the Solent. There are coastal walks along the beaches which can be enjoyed as well as bridle paths along the downs taking in the breathtaking views of the patchwork countryside and out to sea.
Beaches around this part of the island change as you venture along the coast. Ryde itself enjoys 6 miles of stunning sandy beach where cricket games are played on the sand banks during very low tides. Further round the coast there are pebbled beaches, sandy beaches, great beach restaurants and pretty marinas, all this part of the coast is well worth investigating.
Places to eat
There are some great pubs, beach bars and restaurants in this area of the Island. Bembridge has the Pilot Boat, close to the sea serving excellent food with a great atmosphere, on the Duver at St Helens there is Baywatch, a beach restaurant serving good food by the sea. The trendy bars and restaurants are found mostly in Ryde, but all over the Island is enjoying serving up the local produce.
My sister and I were delighted with the cleanliness and homely atmosphere in The Cottage, we have been coming to the Isle of Wight for 20 years but it is the 1st time renting a cottage.
The decor is wonderful, lovely size bedrooms and bathroom. Beds are bliss and so comfy nice to have a welcome pack as well pack as well. There is only 2 "buts" and that is there is no long mirror to check
clothing before going out and the taps in the kitchen are a nightmare to turn 'off' and 'on'. Still these are just our opinion. We have enjoyed our stay.
The Cottage is very well equipped and comfortable. Would have liked to have had a hairdryer, didn't pack one as in previous cottages always provided and also no welcome pack on arrival just a pint of milk.
Can recommend "Olivo" restaurant, disappointed with the codfather fish and chips. Recommend visit to Quarr Abbey, The Needles, Ventnor and walk along coastline to Seaview. Public transport very good, Cottage ideally located to bus station.
Lovely Cottage, beautifully decorated, clean and tidy.
Weather has been brilliant, we've had a fun half term.
Blackgang and Robin Hill are familu favourites and the after dark events
were amazing !
We love the Isle of Wight and will return in 2018 !
Wonderful cottage, so handy for us travelling by bus and train.
Loved having only a short walk to the beach, bus and train station.
Only 1 Slight problem, 2 light bulbs blew while we were in and we had to switch the fuse switch back up in the cupboard.
(Front room and bathroom bulb). We also could have used a spare kitchen rubbish bag. Dvd's games such a great idea
for evening in or a rainy day. Lovely clean cottage our 2nd time here and look forward to a return visit.
The owner has replaced all bulbs in all rooms to long life LED lighting.
A lovely, cosy holiday base - well presented and furnished. Our daughter (aged 6) especially liked the games and books - perfect for evenings in ! (and wet days!)
Everywhere we visited was wasy to get to from here - we've had a wonderful family holiday. Thank you
Back again for the festival. Stayed a little longer and so glad we did. The Cottage feels home from home, the weather this year was an added bonus.
If future vistors need idea's where to dine, please do try "The Alamo" details left in the drawer of the table in the lounge. Great food !
Also left in basket as menu to large for drawer.
Fantastic Cottage and fantastic Island. Hope to be back in 2018. Thank you
We have had a fabulous week at the cottage. Felt at home from the moment we arrived.
We have explored the local area and particularly enjoyed the crazy golf, Olive restaurant and the cafe
at the end of the beach. Amazon World and teh Isle of Wight Zoo were particular hits with the kids.
Had a couple of meals at The White Hart Inn in Havenstreet where the food and ale were particularly good
and the people very friendly - book first though ! Thanks for a lovely break Emma
Ideal base for a summer break, has everything you need. Very comfy double bed local pubs are great and the beach is spot on.
What a lovely holiday cottage ! Completely spotless and very comfortable beds. Location was perfect as only a short walk from the beach front.
TV allowed catch up on old favourites of an evening! Would defiantly stay again and recommend to others thinking of visiting the Isle of Wight.
Thank you !
In agreement with other vistors in the book so far re: cottage - Thank You !
This is the first time we have visited IOW. Spent a very enjoyable day at The Needles and our favourite was the Model Village at Godshill good fun.
We found IOW very clean and went to Quarr Abbey, Bembridge, Brading, Cowes, Shanklin, Sandown and Ventnor, plus a visit to Rosemary Vineyard,
The Garlic Farm and Sharon Orchard !! We also enjoyed the Postcard Museum and Bus and Coach which took us back to our youth !!
On our last night we went to the Caribbean Resturant on Union Street - again a first for us and a very tasty one at that, especially if you enjoy spicy food.
Back home now for a rest !!
This cottage has been fantastic for us. The location is perfect, the size of the property and rooms has been ideal for us.
The attention to detail is amazing we have not had to buy anything to live here this week comfortably.
We don't want to go home ! We will def re-book for next year. Many Thanks
Perfect location for non-car owners !
Used local buses to get around and were delighted to find them running late hours so could stay out late.
Cottage comfortable and well equipped, a little gem !
Lovely Cottage, very homely. We were here for the festival and the position of The Cottage is perfect as after a long day at the festival all one wanted was a shower and bed !
We will certainly return next year. Thank for leaving the milk and shortbread.
We've had a brilliant week on the Isle of Wight.
Ryde was the perfect base and The Cottage was ideal for our family.
We've been out and about everyday (Osborne House, Alum Bay, Steam Railway, Blackgang Chine)
and enjoyed every moment. Thank you.
It was our first time on the Isle of Wight and we had a great time. Everything is in easy reach and our visit to Osborne House was the Highlight.
The Cottage is a great place to stay and we did not want for anything, we will be back in the future to explore more of the Island.
We had a lovely short break in "The Cottage". How nice to come in and find tea, coffee, milk etc.
Perfect place to chill and unwind and to explore the Island. A lovely cosy place to stay a real "home from home" thank you.
Had a really relaxing week. The Cottage has lived up to all expectations and is like "home from home".
Had great walks along the coastal path. Such great views !! The location of The Cottage could not be better
with the bus and hovercraft within walking distance. The buses open up the whole of the Island.
Will have very fond memories.
Had a lovely restful week at "The Cottage" visiting out of season meant that we had Ryde almost to ourselves, which made it even nicer !
Arriving to find loo roll, tea, coffee and sugar, washing up liquid etc was a nice touch. There is also a light at the front door that comes on automatically when you approach it.
All in all a lovely visit and i look forward to returning next year. Finally, i can recommend The Codfather fish and chip shop and The Castle pub - food is lovely in both !
Had an enjoyable week in Ryde and beyond! Cottage was more than adequate for our needs.
This are well thought out with nice touches to make your stay as easy as possible.
Thanks to agents for their professional service.
