Shanklin Town

One of the most popular holiday destinations on the Isle of Wight, Shanklin has everything you need for a great family holiday or to go to with friends or as a couple. Sandown Bay, which stretches from Culver Down in the North 8.5 miles through Sandown, Lake and Shanklin to the South was the winner of the Beach Of The Year in the Countryfile Magazine Awards 2019.

From the long wide sandy beach, perfect for bucket and spade days to the wooded ravine which is Shanklin Chine and the Old Village with its independent shops, restaurants and pubs, you won’t be short of something to do. Shanklin has all the charm of a proper seaside town and set against the dramatic sandstone cliffs, the beach is one of the most stunning walks to take on the Island. You could rent a beach hut and watch the world go by or try your hand at the water sports on offer or have a paddle.

Whether you’re young or old or somewhere in between there’s plenty to do for everyone. With its mixtures of green spaces, beach and town, parks and gardens, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Sit in the peaceful and tranquil Rylstone Gardens, take a picnic and just relax. Have a look at their programme of events and you may find yourself being serenaded by a band on the bandstand.

Go and see a show at Shanklin Theatre which has an amazing mix of professional and amateur shows as well as concerts and comedy to choose from. Take the kids to the Esplanade and spend some pennies on traditional seaside games and amusements and take advantage of the wide range of pubs and cafes or walk through Shanklin Chine and admire this unique gorge with its rare plants and delightful waterfall.

The Old Village with its pretty thatched cottages and history, housing gift shops and tea rooms is the perfect spot for a cream tea or a light lunch. There are also miles of cycle ways and footpaths for you to enjoy so come prepared to get yourself some all- important vitamin sea and during the summer months, there are carnivals and the Shanklin Regatta to enjoy, which add to the excitement of any holiday.

Cream tea? Light lunch? Traditional fish and chips? Locally caught crab and lobster? Whatever your foodie pleasure, you’ll find it in Shanklin. From traditional cafes, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants to an ice cream beside the seaside, you’ll have no problem pleasing everyone. Lots of venues have live music, quizzes and entertainment at weekends and during the summer months so it’s well worth having a look to see what’s going on. Many pubs and restaurants serve local ales and produce sourced from the Island so that you really will be able to taste and eat the Wight.

Great place, immaculately clean and well-appointed. The beds were comfy. Plenty of quality pots and pans. A welcome pack was left, which was lovely. Very close to the centre of Shanklin - a two minute walk up the road. When we got the address, maps suggested that it was a 15 min walk to the beach, which was a worry. However, it's only a 5 min walk to the clifftop path above the sea where you can get the cliff lift down to the beach in summer. The clifftop path is a fantastic dog walk. A couple of things to note. The front garden path is gated, but there is no pavement, so you step straight into the road. You can really only enter safely on foot through the rear entrance. The rear entrance is very quiet, though, and our dog enjoyed pottering up and down the back lane.

Fantastic property, beautiful decor, spotless, everything there you’de need, great location also, would deffinately recommend x

Lovely stay at Kenmare Cottage. The pictures didn't do the property justice. it was extremely spacious and beautifully furnished. It was the first time taking our puppy away and the cottage was set up perfectly for accommodating dogs. It had a secure garden and pet friendly, wipes/water bowls at the ready. The location was also perfect and just a short walk to Shanklin beach. We would definately return. Thank you for our stay.

Felt right at home the moment we walked in . Loved all the Christmas trees and decor.. very tasteful . Beds so comfy and such an easy home to live in for our 9 night stay . So convenient for local shops , and not far to the beach . Myself (from uk ) and my sister and brother-in-law ( from Zimbabwe) really enjoyed our stay and there was enough room for family to join us for a few days

We’ve just returned from Kenmare cottage, we had a wonderful stay - your accommodation is just beautiful, so much to offer a family (grandparents included) lovely and spacious, clean and fresh - a lovely touch as we arrived of a fresh cake, milk in the fridge with a selection of biscuits, teas and coffee. Very close to the high street, chine, lift down to the beach and easy access to food outlets if you don’t fancy cooking. All in all lovely ☺️ We’d definitely like to stay again. Thank you

Had a lovely weekend, very spacious house, clean and great facilities. Had everything we would need and even the cleaning products for the BBQ! Definitely would stay again.

Great place to stay. The beach is at walkable distance. The house was spotlessly clean and tidy. The kids loved the play room, which include lots of board games and almost all popular wii games with multiple remotes. The full size table tennis in the garden also kept us busy. Overall lovely stay, we would like to come again for a longer stay.

All brilliant - couldn’t have been happier, we all had a great time

Lovely house in very central location. Extremely clean and very comfortable.

We had a very pleasant stay here; the property had everything we could wish for with a lovely unexpected welcome hamper that made us feel at home straight away. The property is a short walk from all the shops, beach and restaurants. The 2 car parking spaces were a very useful bonus. The property was peaceful and we couldn't hear anything from the road.

This property is lovey large house, in a fantastic location between old town Shanklin and Shanklin sea front both we walked to on many occasions, about 15mins to the front and 10mins to the old town. There are plenty of eating places, restaurants and take always within a few minutes walk from the house. The house was lovely and clean on arrival, with plenty of towels and everything we needed to make our stay perfect. As mentioned in other reviews the road along to the parking is tight but we have a very large car and managed it without to much of a problem, the neighbours all seemed friendly. We had a fantastic time and will definitely return.

Lovely house in a great location. The games room was a lovely touch and the kids loved it. Thank you.

The house is in a great location - central to Shanklin, walking distance from the town, restaurants and beach! Private parking at the rear... was a little tight but great to have and a definite perk for a central town location. Get used to the parking after the first time and your sorted. This place was immaculate 15/09/2020 and a credit to the people who own it. Our biggest problem would be trying to find somewhere better and I'm a very good and fussy builder . If you cant treat it like you own or better , well what can I say . Well done to all concerned. Regards Phil and family The house itself has been done really nicely, very stylish and modern - feels very homely. There was 5 of us staying and it was the perfect size with 2 small dogs as well. The house was extremely clean and well kept. We ate in most evenings and the kitchen was great for cooking and dining. Small garden which was perfect for the dogs as well as relaxing/ eating. I would highly recommend staying at this house and would stay again myself if visiting the area again

Kenmare Cottage. Hi it’s John here, just thought I would let you know , we have had such a lovely time in this immaculate property, a credit to the owners, couldn’t fault it.
