Explore the enchanting history of Steephill Castle, a former iconic landmark, its roots deeply intertwined with Queen Victoria of England that is now only remembered by the small terrace of cottages that have been lovingly converted from the castle's stables of which The Clock Tower is the centre piece.

With regal allure, The Clock Tower is found within a gated courtyard and located along Ventnor's prestigious Park Avenue, adjacent to Ventnor Park, tranquil impeccability tender gardens and just a few minutes walk to the unspoilt southern coastline from where you can enjoy the splendour of uninterrupted sea views.

A short walk along the coastal path is one of the Island's gems, Steephill Cove - a pretty bay with no vehicular access providing a unique experience with its rustic shack style eateries such as The Crab Shed and beach side cafe, The Boathouse.

The Clock Tower is perfectly located to enjoy all the benefits that the Steephill area of Ventnor offers and together with the charm and character of this unique property, it is the perfect place to stay for couples or single persons looking for something a little different to relax and unwind in privacy and seclusion. For those staying at the beginning and the end of the season, create the perfect cosy atmosphere after that refreshing coastline walk, light the wood burner, pour a glass of your favourite tipple or hot chocolate and enjoy.

The Clock Tower enjoys a private entrance and is accessed via a external stairway to an elevated, south facing decked area from where the sea can viewed and soak up the sun and the peace and quiet. The front door leads into an open plan living, dining and kitchen which you will see from the photos is very inviting. The stairs in the centre of living area lead to a mezzanine area that can be used, but the head height is restricted and is more of a feature than an every day usable space. The living area has a comfy sofa and easy chair positioned in front of a contemporary styled wood burner. There are limited sea views from the south westerly facing window and with the additional sky lights the room is light and airy.

The kitchen is well equipped with a dining area and the open plan arrangement provides a very social setting, whatever you are doing.

The double bedroom is cosy, comfortable and peaceful with wardrobes, chest of drawers and bedside lighting.

An adjacent shower room comprising a quadrant shower enclosure, WHB and toilet is conveniently located.

With its comfortable, cosy furnishings and enviable location, this character property steeped in history with connections to Queen Victoria will not disappoint and is the perfect retreat for couples or single persons seeking peace and solitude.

The Clock Tower is one of four in the building and subject to the availability of the other cottages, can be booked together for friends and family looking to holiday together.

Ventnor Town

Ventnor on the South coast of the Isle of Wight is a picturesque seaside resort, and one of Britain's most famous Victorian health resorts due to its unique micro climate.

The town lies beneath St Boniface Down (the highest point on the Isle of Wight) and for the most part is built on the side of a steep hill leading down to the seafront and beach.

The beach huts that line the back of the beach are converted Victorian bathing machines and are available to hire, along with deckchairs and private areas.
Ventnor has plenty of things to do both in the town and nearby.

Ventnor Beach is a great suntrap, and the sand and shingle beach is great for sunbathing and family swimming.

Ventnor Marina and the bandstand development are very prominent on the seafront and offer a great viewing platform to look out to sea, and the Ventnor Haven Fishery sells the best in local crab and lobster.

Opposite the marina the spectacular Cascade Gardens run down the side of the cliff where the main road zig zags its way back up into the main town.

Further along there is a children’s paddling pool which features a giant map of the Isle of Wight, and from here there are great walks to Wheelers Bay and Bonchurch along the Sea Wall.

A short distance from the seafront at the Western side of the town you can stroll through the beautiful Victorian Ventnor Park. This leads onto the famous Ventnor Botanic Gardens at the Undercliff, where the town’s micro climate can be truly appreciated in a 22 acre sub tropical paradise, see if you can spot the indigenous wall lizards here and in various other locations around Ventnor.

A short walk from here you will discover one of the Isle of Wight’s best kept secrets, Steephill Cove, which is one of the most relaxing beaches on the Island with the warmest water to dip into.
